Lesson plan

Lesson Outline: Describing People and Objects

 1. Warm-Up (10 minutes):

   - Greeting and Introduction:

     - Begin by greeting the students and engaging them in a brief conversation about their day.

     - Review basic vocabulary related to physical characteristics (e.g., tall, short, big, small) to activate prior knowledge.

   - Introduction to the Topic:

     - Introduce the topic of describing people and objects. Show pictures of different people and objects, and ask students to describe what they see in their native language to ensure understanding.

 2. Presentation (15 minutes):

   - Vocabulary Introduction:

     - Introduce key descriptive vocabulary in English (e.g., hair color, height, clothing, shape, size).

     - Use flashcards or images to visually represent each word. For example, show a picture of a person with brown hair and say, "This person has brown hair."

     - Repeat the vocabulary several times, and have students repeat after you to practice pronunciation.

   - Grammar Introduction:

     - Introduce basic sentence structures for descriptions: "He/She is..." and "It is..." for people and objects, respectively.

     - Write example sentences on the board:

       - "She is tall and has curly hair."

       - "It is a big, round ball."

     - Explain how adjectives come before nouns in English and demonstrate with examples.

 3. Practice (15 minutes):

   - Pair Activity:

     - Pair up the students and provide each pair with a set of images of different people and objects.

     - Ask students to describe the images to each other using the vocabulary and structures they’ve just learned.

     - Circulate around the room, offering support and correcting errors as needed.

   - Writing Exercise:

     - Have students individually write short sentences describing a person and an object using the target vocabulary and grammar.

     - Example: "The boy is wearing a blue shirt. The chair is small and red."

 4. Production (10 minutes):

   - Group Activity:

     - Play a descriptive guessing game. Show an image to the class without revealing it to one student, who has to guess what it is based on the descriptions given by their classmates.

     - Encourage students to use full sentences in their descriptions: "It is a small, yellow object."

 5. Review and Homework (5 minutes):

   - Review:

     - Quickly review the key vocabulary and sentence structures by asking students to describe one more image or object in the classroom.

   - Assign Homework:

     - Ask students to bring a picture of a person or object from home (e.g., a family member or a favorite toy) and write a short description of it in English.

 Assessment:

   - Observe students during pair and group activities to ensure they are using the target vocabulary and grammar correctly.

   - Review their written sentences and homework to assess their understanding and application of the lesson.

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to describe people and objects using basic English vocabulary and grammar structures, building their confidence in both speaking and writing.
